Il mwcg7-deidrocolesterolo è uno mwcwsterolo che funge, nel mwdaplasma, come precursore del mwdqcolesterolo, per poi essere convertito in mwdgcolecalciferolo nella pelle, fungendo da mwdwprovitamina D3. Il composto, oltre a essere sintetizzato a livello della pelle, si trova anche nel mwealatte di numerose specie di mweqmammiferi. Il 7-deidrocolesterolo è stato scoperto dal mwegpremio Nobel mwewAdolf Windaus.
